Eyes as Big as Plates # Bob II, with Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth, was selected for the juried annual survey of contemporary glass. One hundred images were published, chosen from 2,357 submitted by 893 artists and companies in 43 countries. Jurors: Anjali Srinivasan, Cindi Strauss, Bohyun Yoon and Susie J. Silbert.

“Merriman, Ikonen, and Hjorth use found documents as source material to create photographic cameos on glass. The finished work hovers between fact and fiction, anecdote and ‘conclusive’ story. I am struck by the work’s allusion to ethnographic content, applied as a permanent carving on a hard material.”

    Academic profile, Anadolu University

The artist's kiln-formed cameo process, using 3D-printed molds to merge photography and glass, is documented in an MA thesis on the history and applications of the cameo glass technique (Anadolu University, Turkey). The thesis places his work among about fifteen cameo glass artists it examines, from Roman antiquity to the present.
